Remodel Day 397: ok seriously here we go....

We are FINALLY living in a construction zone! For almost exactly one year this apartment remodel has been in limbo and today we are finally took the first step to getting this thing done.

In the last year I had a contractor leave before he started, hired an engineer on my own, looked at plans for tearing down walls and installing steel beams, waited, wrung my hands, made steam come out of my calculator while I ran the numbers. I’ve sought wise counsel, gotten bids, talked through a million possibilities, and finally - TODAY - the go button got pressed.

I had big dreamy visions for a massive remodel that ultimately scared me to death. Between the price tag and the risk to the structural integrity of this 1910 building - I just couldn’t sign off on it. So we re-jigged. There is still a ton to do - and it’ll be a total transformation - but just a little bit different than Plan A. This is more like Plan K. Step one is moving the laundry room into the foyer/hallway which got started to get framed in today.
