Book of the Week: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

“Integrity is choosing your thoughts and actions based on values rather than personal gain.” -Unknown

Tonight I finished The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid.  As I have sat here and thought about the book I came across this quote and realized that, in my opinion, Evelyn Hugo was the antithesis of these words. Some would say everything she did was for her personal gain.  But does she get a pass?

If you are getting out of a hole, a dark place, for you and your family do you get a pass?

If your love is considered scandalous or "sinful" - do you get a pass because you know in your bones that your love is true?

If you have privileges not given to others - looks, money, privilege, intelligence, or pure luck - and one of these is literally all you have; is it ok to use them for personal gain?

Have you read the book? What do you think? What are you reading next?
