This approach is simple, secure, and doesn’t require special hardware or adhesives.
This method assumes standard drywall.

How to Hang a Cowhide Rug on a Wall
1. Start with a large wall.
Cowhide rugs need room to shine. A larger wall allows the hide to hang naturally without feeling cramped.
2. Work with two people.
One person holds the cowhide up on the wall while the other places the tacks. This keeps the hide from shifting and makes the process much easier.
3. Begin with the smaller sections of the hide.
Starting near the top or along a smaller edge helps anchor the hide and ensures it’s positioned correctly before you continue.
4. Tack around the entire perimeter.
Place small tacks through the backing of the cowhide and into the drywall all the way around the hide. Spacing will vary depending on the shape — some tacks may be about 12 inches apart, others 18 inches, and on longer edges up to 24 inches.
5. Step back and make small adjustments.
Cowhides are forgiving. Minor tweaks can make a big difference.
A Note on Holes (and Changing Your Mind)
The tacks create very small holes in drywall that are easy to repair later. They also leave extremely tiny holes in the cowhide itself — so if you ever decide to take it down and use it on the floor instead, it’s no big deal at all.
