Buffalo Bill in Weston, Missouri: The Story Behind Our Building

Buffalo Bill in Weston, Missouri: The Story Behind Our Building

Tracy (aka Fancy)
2 minute read

Buffalo Bill Weston Missouri isn’t just a story you read about — it’s something you can actually stand inside.

Before he became a legend of the American West, Buffalo Bill Cody spent time right here in Weston, Missouri — working as a teenager in a building owned by his uncle, on the very ground where Cactus Creek stands today.

This isn’t a “somewhere nearby” story. This is a right here story.

The original structure on this site dates back to the 1840s — during a time when Weston was a booming river town, full of movement, trade, and opportunity. People were coming through constantly, and stories like Buffalo Bill’s were just beginning.
While that original building didn’t survive, the current structure was rebuilt in the early 1900s on the same footprint — meaning the history didn’t disappear… it just kept going.

And now, that same ground is home to Cactus Creek — a place people wander into, slow down for a minute, and usually leave with a story of their own.

It’s easy to think of history as something far away… something behind glass.

But in Weston, it’s different.

You can walk the same streets. Stand in the same spaces. And be part of the story that’s still unfolding.

Buffalo Bill's story isn’t just about who he became — it’s about where he started.

And that starting point is here in Weston, Missouri.
